Standard traffic signs and signals: The Highway Safety Code applies

To improve the experience and safety of active mobility users, JCCBI installed a variety of new road signs, radar speed signs, and variable messaging signs at strategic locations on its several active mobility structures.

Road signs have been installed at strategic locations on the multipurpose path: 

  • 5 signs 
  • Signs indicating authorized (green) and prohibited (red) uses

Slowing down can prevent many accidents. Active transportation is everyone’s responsibility. There’s no need to hurry! 

Radar speed signs have been installed to make everyone aware of the importance of obeying the speed limit on the multipurpose path: 

  • 5 radar speed signs
  • 20 km/h maximum

CAUTION: In winter, stay safe and take extra caution!

  • 5 tab signs
  • Potential risks (yellow)

Sidewalk

The sidewalk is closed for 2026 due to construction work at the île Sainte-Hélène Pavilon

Road signs have been installed at strategic locations on the sidewalk: 

  • 5 signs
  • Permitted (green), prohibited (red) and not recommended (yellow) uses

Multipurpose path and sidewalk

Digital displays and variable messaging signs  

Digital displays and variable messaging signs (VMS) have been installed to inform users about the condition of the multipurpose path and sidewalk: 

  • 2 digital displays
  • 5 VMS 

Melocheville Tunnel

You must get off your bicycle when using the Melocheville Tunnel sidewalk

Indicates that it is mandatory for cyclists to get off their bicycles for safety reasons. A sign is installed at both entrances to the tunnel, on the bicycle path side (towards Beauharnois west sector).

Pedestrians are prohibited on the roadway 

In both tunnel tubes, as well as on the shoulders.

Indicates a mandatory route for cyclists and pedestrians

Using roadways is forbidden. The sign also specifies that the sidewalk will be closed from December 1st to April 15 each year, or subject to weather conditions.
