The Bonaventure Expressway is being reconfigured for the benefit of the community. While the expressway is being turned into a boulevard, work will also be done in three adjacent sectors to preserve and uphold the safety of infrastructure in this area.
Bonaventure reconfiguration
The section of roadway that will be reconfigured into a boulevard extends from the intersection of the Bonaventure Expressway with Pierre Dupuy Avenue to the intersection of Marc Cantin Street with Gaétan-Laberge Boulevard.
Work description
Work duration: Autumn 2025 to 2029.
The project will involve the removal of Carrie Derick Street, to the north, which runs alongside the business park, to accommodate the relocated lanes.
Moving traffic lanes away from the shore of the St. Lawrence River will open up a vast space for the creation of an 80,000 m2 green corridor along the river’s edge, complete with active mobility paths.
This approach will also make it possible to maintain traffic flow by retaining three lanes in each direction.
Hindrances for 2026
Bonaventure Expressway, between Victoria Bridge and Clément Bridge:
2 out of 3 lanes open toward Hwy. 15
3 lanes open toward downtown
Gaétan Laberge Boulevard:

Elevated lanes sector
The federal section of the Bonaventure Expressway’s elevated lanes extends from the Victoria Bridge to the Peel Basin. The section from the Peel Basin to Wellington Street is managed by the City of Montréal.

Impact on traffic fron March to May 2026

Clément Bridge sector
The Samuel De Champlain Bridge (Hwy. 15 South) and the northern point of Île des Sœurs are linked to the Bonaventure Expressway through road structures that include the Clément Bridge. This bridge spans a branch of the St. Lawrence River at the northern point of Île des Sœurs to then meet up with the Bonaventure Expressway. Built in 1966, this aging infrastructure requires work to remain functional.

Note that most of the work is being carried out below the roadway.
